Macron: Time for Greece to look towards the future
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday he arrived in Athens with businesspeople who believe in Greece and Europe and “came here to help Greece succeed”, as he spoke at an official dinner held in his honour at the Presidential Mansion.
Macron said the aim is for the country to regain its economic sovereigntity and live through growth. “We want this strategic partnership to succeed in favour of everyone […] We want to cooperate,” he said.
"The time has come for Greece to look towards the future, and not implement rules decided by others,” he said, adding that “we must be demanding” for Greece and Europe and said he agreed on many of the points made by his Greek counterpart.
"The EU didn’t know how to react. It took decisions that were not coordinated to manage the crisis which were at the expense of citizens,” he added and congratulated Greeks and especially the young for supporting Europe despite the hard sacrifices they suffered.
