Greek budget showed primary surplus of 1.539 bln euros in Jan-May

Greek state budget showed a primary surplus of 1.539 billion euros in the January-May period, from a budget target for a primary surplus of 180 million euros and a primary surplus of 1.840 billion in the same period last year.

The Finance Ministry, in a report on provisional budget execution data, said that the state budget showed a deficit of 799 million euros on an amended cash basis, from a budget target for a shortfall of 2.163 billion and a deficit of 1.242 billion in 2017.

Net revenue was 18.436 billion euros in the five-month period, up 848 million euros or 4.8 pct compared with budget targets. Regular budget net revenue amounted to 17.316 billion euros, up 388 million euros of 2.3 pct from targets. Tax returns totaled 1.909 billion euros, up 561 million euros from targets, while Public Investment Programme revenue was 1.120 billion euros, up 460 million from targets.

State budget spending amounted to 19.235 billion euros in the January-May period, down 516 million from targets, while regular budget spending was 18.441 billion euros in line with budget targets. Budget spending was down 689 million euros compared with the same period last year. Public Investment Programme spending was 794 million euros, down 516 million from targets.

In May, state budget net revenue was 2.968 billion euros, down 309 million from monthly targets, while regular budget revenue was 2.941 billion euros, down 253 million from targets. Public Investment Programme revenue was 28 million euros, down 56 million from targets. Tax returns amounted to 606 million euros, up 351 million from monthly targets. State budget spending was 3.193 billion euros in May, up 235 million from monthly targets, while regular budget spending was 3.623 billion, up 195 million from targets. Public Investment Programme spending was 290 million euros in May, up 40 million from monthly targets.
