Bomb scare grounds Condor Airlines plane at Chania late on Thursday

A Boeing 757 of Condor Airlines was grounded after a bomb scare forced the pilots to land at the Chania airport on Crete on Thursday evening.

The aircraft left Hurghada, an Egyptian resort town, and was heading to Dusseldorf when a bomb scare forced it to land at a designated area between the central airport and the American base at Souda at 20:48, accompanied by two F-16s of the Hellenic Air Force.

A bomb squad and an explosives-sniffing dog did not find any explosives. The evacuated passengers, who also went through checks as did their baggage, spent the night at the airport and were scheduled to leave for Germany on Friday.
