Deputy Min Papakosta submits letter of resignation; not accepted by PM

Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Katerina Papakosta has submitted a letter of resignation to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras but he has not accepted it, sources said on Wednesday.

Her letter of resignation, submitted on Monday, has been exclusively revealed to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

Explaining her decision, Papakosta said that she was taking this step so as not to leave any "shadow" about "exchanges" that might "tarnish" her "unselfish" and "patriotic positions" in view of a vote renewing parliament's confidence in the government.

She reiterated her confidence in the government, without any conditions, stressing that "it should continue until October 2019 to complete the reforms that are vital for the country and the Greeks."

Her entire letter of resignation was revealed exclusively to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).
