"Today is a day of remembrance, it is one year since the national tragedy at Mati and the prime minister attended the memorial," government spokesperson Stelios Petsas said on Tuesday, during the first regular press briefing after the July 7 elections.

The government spokesperson noted that this was a day of action for "our fellow citizens who have been hurt". In particular, he referred to what the prime minister promised in parliament during the presentation of the government's policy platform.

"These actions are the only sign of sympathy and support," he added, and announced that the government will unfreeze some 31 million euros currently languishing in a special account.

This money will be made available to people with severe burns so they have access to all medicines, treatments and medical supplies they need, he said. Also, fire victims will be exempt from ENFIA property tax for five years. The last measure affects 4,334 inhabitants of Mati and amounts to 10 million euros. In addition, 20 million euros will be allocated for the rehabilitation of the affected areas.

"After the three-day debate in Parliament, the government took a vote of confidence. A new era begins with vision, design and perspective. The mandate of the people is for a change of course. Ideological differences are not abolished but the line between conservatism and progress is growth. The overwhelming majority of Greeks want to invest, reform and develop. The new government will confront the problems," Petsas said.

On the reduction of ENFIA, the government spokesman responded to the opposition's allegations, saying that the cuts are equivalent to those announced by the previous government.

Finally, he announced the prime minister's programme. This afternoon, at 18:00, a meeting will be held at the Maximos Mansion with the leadership of the culture ministry on the expansion of the National Archaeological Museum and the exploitation of the former royal estate at Tatoi.

On Wednesday, at 11:30, the Maximos Mansion will open its gates to 15 young students, who will visit for a discussion with the prime minister on the anniversary of the restoration of the democracy in Greece in 1974, while earlier, at 10:30, Mitsotakis will meet Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias to discuss the anti-smoking law.

On Thursday, at 9:30, the prime minister will visit the tourism ministry, followed by meetings at the former Elliniko airport, while the three pending Joint Ministerial Decisions will be issued by August 10.

On Friday, at 9:30, Mitsotakis will visit the Ministry of Rural Development.

His visits abroad will start from Cyprus on July 29-30. On August 29, he will travel to Berlin and on September 2-3 to the Netherlands, while his visit to Paris is planned after August 20.
