Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, while addressing the 30th annual conference of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, stressed that he had achieved his top priority as prime minister, which was to restore Greece's credibility in European and international affairs.

Speaking at the conference on Tuesday, Tsipras said this was achieved not only through Greece's exit from the memoranda, its return to international money markets and the restoration of its economic growth, but also by upgrading the country's geopolitical role.

He underlined that "the new government has the privilege of setting off from the best possible starting point", but has "one basic obligation: not to reverse the good course, not to reverse the conditions of equitable growth that we passed on to it."

SYRIZA's leader underlined that Greece will be unable to play its role as a crucial country on the world map and a dynamic European economy - a hub for energy, technology, transport, trade, culture and tourism - "unless we are at the same time a pillar and a guarantee of peace, stability and security in our region."

Tsipras noted that he wanted to be absolutely clear: "What we expect from our partners, and in particular the U.S., are far more substantive condemnations regarding Turkey's recent, legally invalid agreements with Libya that blatantly violate international law."
