VAT on radiopharmaceuticals to be greatly reduced, says FinMin Staikouras
The Finance Ministry plans to reduce the VAT tax rate on radiology contrast agents and radiotherapy services to 6 pct, down from the current 24 pct and 13 pct, with a draft amendment tabled in parliament on Monday.
The agents are used in scanning patients with difficult to treat diseases, including cancer.
Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said that by way of this "legislative initiative, we are reducing both the overall pharmaceutical cost as well as the cost to patients."
The reduction was tabled in consultation with the Ministry of Health.
