PM Tsipras to speak at SPD conference in Berlin

"It is time for historical decisions and choices for the progressive forces ahead of the European elections and amid an increase of the far right parties' influence on the masses," Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to say on Saturday during his speech at the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) conference in Berlin.

According to government sources, Tsipras is expected to refer to main strategy issues of the progressive area and stress the need for the reconstruction of the social state, the increase in salaries, the protection of labour market and the protection of the environment.

He will underline that such strategies give the European peoples a prospect and constitute a barrier to the far right. He will also note that bold decisions that require political courage and constitute an ideological defeat of nationalism will be required. At that point, he will refer to the Prespes Agreement, which is a historical agreement and constitutes an important progressive development for the Balkans of the new era.

Tsipras' programme in detail is as follows:

12:00 Meeting with the Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa

13:00 Meeting with German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz

14:30 Meeting with the President of the SPD Andrea Nahles

16:00 Speech at the SPD Conference
