PM Mitsotakis addresses EPP annual meeting in Crete

Prime Minister and New Democracy (ND) party President Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the annual meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the European Parliament, held at Chersonissos near the city of Heraklion, on Tuesday.

The Greek Premier said that ND, which is in government since 2019, "is exhibiting unprecedented political endurance, because we managed all the crises effectively and consistently with our election campaign commitments. We reduced taxes, and strengthened [national] defense and social cohesion," he emphasized.

Mitsotakis also said his government created growth and jobs for all Greeks, adding that "Greece is no longer the black sheep in the European family," underlining dropping unemployment rates and foreign investments, as well as reforms implemented in education and in health.

Referring to national elections coming up when the government's first term ends next year, the PM said that Greek people will realize in the spring of 2023 that Greece is better off than it was in 2019.

EPP President Manfred Weber also addressed the EPP meeting on Tuesday, while EPP Vice-President and New Democracy MEP Vangelis Meimarakis was also scheduled to speak.

The annual EPP meeting's focus is on the future of Europe and the energy crisis, and will conclude on Friday.
