Gov't support to low-income households was not effective, PASOK says, citing Eurostat report

The government should have been able to support low-income households more, judging by the income figures published by Eurostat, PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) said on Thursday.

Initial Eurostat figures, the party's economy-related division said, showed that Greece is among four countries that registered a rise in poverty between 2019 and 2021, despite the fact that nearly all other countries introduced support measures that brought significant improvements in low-income households.

"Unlike countries like Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania and Romania that managed to reduce the risk of poverty, the Greek government failed miserably to protect society and the vulnerable in particular, despite the 50 billion euros it spent," it said.
