Police investigating death of Romanian man found dead on Mount Athos

The body was found on Thursday afternoon by a monk from the Holy Monastery of Aghia Lavra.

According to the initial findings of the police investigation, the man probably fell from a height of at least 30 metres.

Despite the fact that there was no evidence of foul play, all possibilities are open to investigation while the coroner's examination is expected to shed more light on the case.

The Romanian was visiting Mount Athos and stayed at the Romanian hermitage of Timios Prodromos, which belongs to the Monastery of Megisti Lavra.
